GOOD ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES IN ROAD REHABILITATION


“ The road to development is through the development of the road » goes the saying. The Togolese government has understood it so well that it has integrated it. in its outlook.

Indeed, the Togolese government has raised ; 5 major challenges for the country, accentuated by the Covid-19 crisis, to: taken into account in the development of the new integrated national vision. This includes, among other things,  “ strengthening of positioning as a logistics hub (i.e., air, port, road to the hinterland) by strengthening infrastructure and capitalizing on the country’s strategic geographical position and its natural openness to the sea and the hinterland” (Ré ;Togolese public, Togo 2025 Government Roadmap; October 2020).

Also the country has Over the past few years, it has opened several construction and rehabilitation sites for tracks and roads; national and international character.

Among the road infrastructures that are in redevelopment, there is work to create a 2x2 lane of the N°2 National Road on the Togokomé-Aného section (20 km). These works also include related developments (construction of multifunctional for young people in Aného; fence of the heavy-lift car park in Aného; construction/rehabilitation of the Agbodrafo market; construction/ rehabilitation of the secondary school in Aného ville; construction/rehabilitation of the Medico-Social Center in Agbodrafo; construction of footbridges in Lomé.

Aware that carrying out the activities could have negative impacts negative on the population and the environment, an environmental and social impact study of the project has been carried out. conducted by the promoters of this project, together with measures aimed at; mitigate its negative impacts.

The object of the works is d’ to be at the service of the population in general, and of the usages, in particular. As such, in order to make them sustainable infrastructures, it has been planned to proceed with awareness of the population of the project area on good environmental practices.

Rehabilitation works are being restored produced by SOROUBAT. The control mission is carried out by the firms Gauff Ingenieure and GTAH-Ingenieurs Conseils, which have commissioned 3 NGOs, including Les Amis de la Terre-Togo, to raise awareness among the populations. The awareness theme led by Friends of the Earth-Togo relates to good environmental practices.

The gist of the posts is as follows :

• Dad, mom, brothers and sisters, if we want to live long on earth, we must adopt good practices below :

- Let's avoid creating ;anarchic pots,

es in the gutters and in the streets

- Avoid defecating in nature and urinating in streets and gutters

- Avoid throwing plastic bags in gutters and streets after eating

• What to do?
- Subscribe to garbage collection companies and NGOs

- Arrange and use latrines for needs

- Place the plastics in the bins

• Dad, mom, brothers and sisters, protecting our environment is preserving our health.

From October 26, 2021 to November 13, 2021 , the populations of 15 villages and agglomerations (cf. the attached document for the photos) were sensitized. The localities concerned are: Agovoudou; Devikeme; Togokome; Nimagnan: Kpessi Drafoe; Alogavi; Kpessi Amendji; Djasseme; Sewatsrikope; Agbodrafo 1; Agbodrafo 2; Kpémé ; Edoh Kondji; Goumoukope, Vodougbe

The results achieved by Les Friends of the Earth-Togo à à agrave; this stage of awareness are:

- Populations of 15 villages/settlements ;residents of the project understand the importance of the environment in their lives;

- The 15 villages/agglomerations neighbors of the project are built on good environmental practices;

- The target groups of15 villages/agglomerations bordering the project are sensitized to; do not vandalize public works. .
