TIMBY is a mobile reporting application for the protection of
the environment. As such, it has been used for some time by Les Amis de la Terre-Togo
for the conservation of biodiversity.
Indeed, the Togodo Sud wildlife reserve, with a current area of 15,000 ha, is one of the
10 priority protected areas of the country. This park, which is a Ramsar site, has a level of diversity
biologically high and home to endemic species. Our organization, in collaboration with the
Village Associations for the Management of Protected Areas (AVGAP) and the Union of Village Associations
Management of Protected Areas (UAVGAP), carried out in 2008, a beekeeping project coupled with an activity
reforestation in the 8 surrounding villages, before an extension of activities in 2012. Nevertheless,
the incidence of poverty has led to strong anthropogenic pressures from local populations
of the park. These human activities contrary to the sustainable management of resources call for a change
of behavior.
The purpose of using the TIMBY application is to alert Friends of the Earth-Togo to the
illegal actions that take place in the park.
