As part of the project to strengthen the African region in put an end to; impunity Transnational Corporations (STN), Friends of the Earth Togo organized; on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at; the Entente room of the Center for Administration and Economic and Financial Services (CASEF), a capacity building workshop for 28 people from organizations for the defense of human rights and the environment. > The project's general objectives: the documentation of cases of impunity from companies to; around the world, and especially in Africa, to demand policy changes aimed at dismantle power and challenge impunity; companies, and the current model of directed development; by multinational corporations; exposing harmful trade agreements and promoting binding rules for TNCs and other businesses. More specifically, it’s ;: 1. Document and expose concrete examples of human rights impacts of TNCs activities; 2. Train 25 human rights defense structures (NGOs/associations and public administration) on the treaty; Binding United Nations and its negotiation process; 3. Building a coalition of civil society organizations (CSO) in favor of the fight against violations of TNCs and for the dignity of human, with a roadmap. Two communications have been received. made during the workshop by two experts from Friends of the Earth-Togo: Communication 1< /strong> : Documented concrete examples of business impacts s of TNCs on human rights, by KPONDZO Kwami, in charge of campaigns Communication 2 : The United Nations Binding Treaty and its Negotiation Process, AMEGADZE Kokou, Acting Executive Director span> These communications prompted a lot of interest and questions to which the communicators brought; answers. Questioned; on the need to train CSOs to document cases of human rights violations by TNCs, Mr. AMEGADZE Kokou Elorm, said that: “  ;TNCs are companies that have offices in several countries, under different jurisdictions, with a single decision-making centre. There are many injustices associated with the activities of these companies, he pointed out. It is about human rights violations, land grabbing, ecological damage. It is therefore a question of seeing how we can reverse this so that the affected populations no longer suffer from the perverse effects linked to the activities of TNCs. Given that the CSO movement supports the communities affected by human rights abuses, it is important to raise awareness and train them on the ins and outs of the activities ;s of STNs. This is why we want these CSOs to understand the issues related to the operations of TNCs to ensure that the abuses we see can stop. » The workshop ended on a high note by building a coalition for fighting against TNC violations and for dignity. human, bringing together the participating organizations, with a roadmap for carrying out its activities.
