END THE IMPUNITY OF MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS


A little over a month after the CASEF’s workshop on strengthening the African region in put an end to; impunity multinational companies, which brought together about twenty organizations for the defense of human rights, Friends of the Earth-Togo has strengthened, on the same theme, the capacities of women’s organizations in society ; civil. This was during a workshop held on August 26, 2022, at; Tokoin CESAL.

This workshop, like that of CASEF, is part of the project to strengthen the African region in put an end to; impunity transnational corporations (TNCs) whose general objectives are: documentation of cases of impunity; from companies to; around the world, and especially in Africa, to demand policy changes aimed at dismantle power and challenge impunity; companies, and the current model of directed development; by multinational corporations; exposing harmful trade agreements; and promoting binding rules for TNCs and other businesses.

More specifically, this is:

Document and expose concrete examples of the impacts of the activities of TNCs on human rights;

    Train 25 women's structures (NGOs/associations and public administration) on the treaty; binding United Nations and its negotiation process;

    Set up a coalition of civil society organisations; (CSO) in favor of the fight against violations of TNCs and for dignity; human, with a roadmap

Two communications were made during the workshop by two experts from Friends of the Earth-Togo:  

Communication 1 : Documented concrete examples of impacts of ;TNCs activities on human rights, by KPONDZO Kwami, in charge of campaigns

Comcommunication 2 : United Nations and its negotiating process, by AMEGADZE Kokou, Acting Executive Director

Following the two presentations, questions and answers allowed participants to better understand the two themes.

Asked on Why Form Women's Organizations in Society? civil to document cases of human rights violations by the TNCs, Mr AMEGADZE Kokou Elorm, said that: “”We believe that women are vulnerable populations and it is a question of seeing how to bring these female populations to life. arming, equipping oneself on the violations to which women may be subject and how we can mobilize these women’s organizations to; to be able to guide actions to ensure that impunity that characterizes transnational corporations may no longer be appropriate and that today we are asking for more accountability, more responsibility and more. of transnational corporations in relation to their activities, not only locally but also elsewhere. »< /p>

At the end of the workshop, the organizations that donated their agreement to be part of the coalition of civil society organisations; (CSO) in favor of the fight against violations of TNCs and for dignity; human, with a roadmap, have been added to those of the workshop of July 19, 2022, held at CASEF.
