public lecture on fossil fuels


 

Friends of the Earth-Togo organized on 25 November 2022, in the OCDI conference room at Tokoin Césal, Lomé, a public conference on fossil fuels, at; the intention of about thirty participants including fishermen and fish processors, organizations of society; organizations (CSOs), media outlets and representatives of public administration.

The overall aim of the conference is to stimulate discussion on the negative externalities of fossil fuels, create a permanent framework for dialogue and conduct advocacy in order to achieve a just energy transition.

Specifically the conference is aimed at:

To bring administration officials and other stakeholders to ; more collaboration;

Strengthen partnership and create a supportive environment that can ;stopping the just energy transition in Togo

Two communications furnished the conference:

Communication 1< span style="font-family: 'Palatino Linotype',serif;"> : The different types of energy used in Togo, their sources, storage, management and prospects the country’’s energy; by M. AFANOU N’boueke General Directorate of Energy.

Communication 2< span style="font-family: 'Palatino Linotype',serif;"> : Current policies, strategies and actions to be taken. short, medium and long terms of Togo to adapt to climate change and, how to fight their causes ; by Mr. SOSSOU Komi of the Department of the Environment.

Following these two communications, the participants posed; questions to understand more about the topic. Appropriate responses have been received. provided by exhibitors.

The conference was also marked by the work at the crossroads.

Indeed, two groups have been created. set up to work on two topics related to the theme of the conference at; know:

Community Engagement screw government / policy makers – how to do it?

Strengthening collaboration between CSOs and communities affected: what methods and means of collaboration?

The results of the work are as follows:

Create a platform consisting of heads and notables of communities with the same problems such as (Gbétsogbé, Baguida plage, Noudokopé, Avépozo, Kpogan, Boboloé, Agbavie, Sbokomé) and define a list of priorities ;

Forge alliances and, initiate negotiations with the government to hope to obtain approaches to solutions;

Engage with government departments. maritime economics of fisheries and coastal erosion, health, safety, social affairs and the environment.

 S’organize (communities communities), and work with NGOs, Village Development Committees, the National Union of Togolese Fishermen, town halls and traditional chiefs.

Collaborate (CSOs) with ministerial departments and between them; provide technical support to accompany communities through awareness raising, training, retraining and capacity building activities.
