Training of local communities on export credit agencies and climate change


A training workshop took place on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at CESAL, Lomé-Tokoin, at; towards the communities of Gbétsogbé, Katanga and Doevi-kopé, in order to extend their mobilization and ownership, of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) on climate change and credit agencies at; export (ACE).

Friends of the Earth-Togo, initiator of this activity, pursued the following objectives:

-    ;   To understand how creative agencies work said to exports (ACE), as well as their role in climate change to participants;

-    ; 

Several communications have been delivered, including:

-  On the one hand, the one presented by Mr. AMEGADZE Kokou Elorm (environmental lawyer), on the role of credit agencies in exporting in climate change, and

-      On the other hand, the presentation made by KPONDZO Kwami (environmental manager) on the topic: What to understand from Determined Contributions; es at the National level (CDN), on the revised climate changes of Togo ?

 

In his presentation, Mr. AMEGADZE Kokou Elorm, said that ACEs are private, public or government agencies whose objective is to help national companies do business abroad, while giving guarantee and assurance to the latter. He made the link between the activities of Export Credit Agencies in the fossil fuel boom. He clearly demonstrated ;, statistical data to support that these agencies finance, in large part, fossil fuels, rather than renewable energies. and the political authorities to set their sights on renewable energies, opting for the just energy transition.

As for; Mr. KPONDZO Kwami, he said that each country has defined its commitments, in terms of contribution to; the 2030 Agenda. These commitments are formulated in CDN. After clarifying the process of developing this important document, the speaker said that Togo has revised; its CDNs in 2021. This support is articulated; around the following points: the governance mechanism, the mitigation and adaptation components, the financing as well as the measurement, notification and verification system.

He didn’t miss; to share with the participants the results of the COP27 of the UNFCCC, in Egypt, at; which he took part. He said it’s not indicated. that African leaders have signed the carbon credit deal, which he says risks worsening the climate crisis.

In conclusion, he said that the NDCs are a tool in the fight against climate change. He encouraged the company civil to civil to ensure that the government respects its commitments, to this title.

Finally, the participants defined strategies to put an end to the ecocidal activities of credit agencies. export.
